THE NEED FOR A CREDIBLE ELECTORAL PROCESS IN NIGERIA
Labour Party LP, has called on MR PRESIDENT, Muhammadu Buhari to leave a lasting legacy of a viable and credible electoral system for the present and future generations. An electoral system where competent, intelligent and patriotic Nigerians with innovative ideas can emerge as leaders without much ado.
According to Barr. Julius Abure, Nat. Sec, Labour Party believes that good leadership is a panacea for good governance which engenders growth and development for the country. A leadership which comes to power through such an electoral system will no doubt be people oriented and shall pro actively find solutions to the myriad of problems confronting the country.
“The President must therefore use this momentous opportunity of the ongoing amendment to the Electoral Act and the 1999 Construction including the 2023 general election to leave his foot print on the sand of time bearing in mind that he wouldn’t be a participant in that election and therefore loses nothing but a win win situation for him.” he added.
Also, he said Mr. President must remember that the Nigerian State and society was magnanimous to him haven provided him the opportunity to serve in the military and held various political positions in Nigeria including being a governor, military head of state and now civilian president for almost 8 years. He must consequently, reciprocate this gesture by rising beyond ethnic, religious, tribal and partisan affinities by using his best endeavors to give the country a sound electoral system and reposition Nigeria for effective service delivery to its citizens.
