STATEMENT FROM THE LABOUR PARTY

The National Leadership of the Labour Party has cautioned the Deputy Governor of Abia state, Dr. Ikechukwu Emetu, some suspended members of our party including Senators Nenadi Usman, Darlington Nwokocha and others to desist from using the name of the Labour Party to engage in illegal party activities.

The party warned that the deputy governor can no longer hide under the shield of immunity to perpetuate illegality as whatever crime committed while in office can be used against him after service.

Labour Party also called on the public to beware of political fraud being perpetuated by the Deputy Governor, suspended senators Nenadi Usman and Nwokocha by the way of soliciting for new membership registration and calling for an illegal convention.

The party said that it has successfully conducted a national convention in March 2024. It had also flagged of its online and physical registration across the 36 States of the Federation and FCT several months ago with an astronomical figures recorded so far.

In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the party said it will take every lawful means to challenge every fraudulent acts by any individual or group, formally or presently associated with the Labour Party who are undermining the party’s rules and regulations.

The statement further states, “Our attention has been drawn to a viral video of the Dr. Ikechukwu Emetu, the deputy governor of Abia state, Senators Esther Nenadi Usman and Darlington Nwokocha amongst others where in a show of shame and by the way of content creation were engaged in an illegal “unveiling and inauguration of the LP National Steering Committee for membership registration.”

“We do not know which Labour Party these people are working for, or under which authority they are performing an exercise that had already taken place several months ago. Who is playing this dumb drum for these men, even when they knew that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has since moved on with the authentic leadership of the Labour Party.

“Only recently, the Labour Party held its INEC monitored Congresses across the 35 states and FCT, with exception of Abia State due to court order. INEC has also monitored the exercises leading to the Labour Party participation in the 2026 governorship elections in both Osun and Ekiti states.

“We also saw in the midst of these content creators, an activist popularly known as “Hush Mummy” who recently renounced her Obidient membership and also clarified she was never a Labour Party member. Isn’t it laughable that the same woman was seen sitting on a high table with other disgruntled party members and was discussing party affairs. This is clearly another “skit” where she is expected to rip from.

“For the unsuspecting members of the party, you will recall that the deputy governor of Abia state, Ikechukwu Emetu led the entire Abia state executive and House of Assembly members to Nnewi National Convention of the Party in March 2024, where the Abure led National Working Committee was elected. It was Dr. Emetu who raised Julius Abure’s hand in Nnewi as the duly elected and undisputed National Chairman of the Labour Party. What changed, your Excellency?

“We are therefore worried by the pedigree and quality of emerging leaders Nigeria is producing. The future of Nigeria is in a dare strait if our future leaders are men with unidentifiable and incongruous personality. Men who will hardly stand for what they believed in.

“We are aware of a renewed plot by a powerful politician from the South East who has sworn to sink the party if he fails to have his way in merchandising with the Labour Party ahead of 2027. We are therefore calling on Nigerians to rise up against the plot by one man to turn the Labour Party into his personal fiefdom.

“The Labour Party is not available for their ulterior motives, the party has moved on. We have had our convention and we recently concluded our congresses across the nation. We are presently focused on making greater impact in 2027. We therefore warn every obstructive powers to also move on because Labour Party has since moved on.”
