PRESS RELEASE FROM THE LABOUR PARTY

The Labour Party’s candidate for the Anambra South Senatorial bye-election, Hon Chuma Nzeribe has said that the huge support from the 2023 presidential candidate of the party, Peter Obi and Chief George Moghalu, the party’s candidate in the November 2025 Anambra State governorship election is a game changer and an alliance that has assured him of total victory in the coming election.

Hon. Nzeribe, a former House of Representatives member also said that he is in a hurry to put a new security architecture in Anambra South that will help secure the people and to also forcefully remove all the militants and violent criminals in the Senatorial zone.

Hon. Nzeribe was at the National Headquarters of the Labour Party, late Thursday to receive his Certificate of Returns as the party’s candidate for the Anambra South Senatorial bye-election.

At the party primaries held on the 20th of July, 2025, Chuma Nzeribe who pulled a total of 367 votes to defeat his only opponent Anagwu Fredrick Emeka with a vote totalling 213, in a primary election observed by INEC applauded the Barrister Julius Abure leadership for enthroning transparency in the conduct of the primary election.

While expressing his confidence ahead of the election schedule to hold on August 2025, Hon. Nzeribe said, “I am indeed lucky because of the supports from His Excellency, Peter Obi who is our national leader and also Chief George Moghalu, our governorship candidate. I am indeed lucky because I believe the impart of their support will go a long way in ensuring victory for the party. We are expected to win and we are working hard, mobilizing the party structures to win.”

Nzeribe who also praised the statesmanship of his opponent, Anagwu Fredrick Emeka who promised to work with him said, “the primary election is very transparent and the tight result shows why the contest was clearly open. Even my opponent congratulated me and both of us, the following day, were with our governorship candidate, Chief George Moghalu. We had a very good and robust discussion on how to synergise and collapse all our structures together to win the election.”

The Labour Party candidate also spoke about his expectations when he emerges as the senator representing Anambra South, particularly as it concerns insecurity in the state.

“You see the deteriorating security situation in Anambra South where most of the Local Governments are under the control of the unknown gunmen. I want to help to put a new security architecture that will intervene forcefully and remove all these militants and violent criminals in our domain.

“I also want to speed up the rate of infrastructure development. If you watch in most of the communities, we don’t have good roads and also electricity. In my Local Government, Ihiala, we have stayed up to three months without electricity. It is even more in some other areas. So intervention on new infrastructure is very crucial to my mandate, to see what we can improve upon.

“The government of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has done the best it can. If you provide skyscrapers, roads and flyovers without security, nobody appreciates that. They failed woefully to curtail insecurity in the state.

“The crisis in the Labour Party will not in any way affect my chances because the so called crisis is superficial. As you can see, all the dramatis personnel are talking to each other and I believe with time, all these issues will be sorted out. My candidature is supported by everyone because I am the one on ground and I won the primaries clearly.”

Earlier, the Labour Party national chairman, Barrister Abure said that the party is proud of the candidate’s track record of performance and selfless service. He said that his emergence as the Senator for the Anambra South will bring the needed relief in the area of insecurity in Anambra State and change the face of decadence in infrastructure of the state.

“I recall how one of our leaders who was a member of the state Assembly was brutally murdered in the state. We have also read with apprehension how the state has become a dreaded place because of the activities of the criminals. I believe that Chuma’s experience as a former Security Adviser to the state government will be handy to check the excesses of the unknown gunmen and other criminals who are having a field day in the state.”
